Report: JLo to make 'Carmen Sandiego' movie

Looking for Carmen Sandiego?

Well look no further than Brookville resident Jennifer Lopez.

According to Deadline, JLo has signed on to produce and possibly star in a movie about the iconic detective-turned-thief, whose notorious character first made a splash back in 1985.

Deadline reports Lopez, 42, will be producing the film with her Nuyorican Productions’ partners Benny Medina and Simon Fields, and Underground Films’ Nick Osbourne, Trevor Engelson and Devin Andre.

She is also working with Walden Media, who recently acquired the rights to “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” This is the same company that brought the Carmen Sandiego name into classrooms with a series of educational games still used today.

In the story from the '90s, Carmen Sandiego travels around the world as a thief on the run. Her former partner works to track her down and confront her, eventually finding out if she is a menace or a hero. Word is the live-action Lopez movie will follow the same plotline.

Still, fans of the franchise shouldn’t get too excited yet. Following the PBS TV series that ran from 1991 to 1995, a similar movie was planned for with Sandra Bullock slated to star as Carmen Sandiego, but it never took off.
