Adam Lambert, Auli'i Cravalho to star in 'Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club'
A Queen frontman and a Disney princess are coming to the "Cabaret" on Broadway.
Rocker Adam Lambert will make his Broadway debut when he succeeds Eddie Redmayne as the Emcee in the hit musical "Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club" beginning Sept. 16. At the same time, Auli'i Cravalho, who provided the voice of the title character in the 2016 animated Disney movie "Moana," will take over for Gayle Rankin as Sally Bowles. Both are scheduled to remain with the show through March 30.
Lambert, 42, first rose to fame when he competed on "American Idol" in 2009, where he finished as the runner-up to winner Kris Allen. Later that year he released his first album, "For Your Entertainment," which produced the hit single "Whataya Want From Me." In addition to his solo career, he has been touring as the lead singer of British rock band Queen since 2012.
"Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club" will also mark the Broadway debut of Cravalho, 23, who will be reprising her role as Moana in the animated movie sequel set for release Nov. 27. Earlier this year she played Janis Ian in the movie version of the "Mean Girls" musical.
Redmayne and Rankin will play their final performances on Sept. 14. Prior to its success on Broadway, "Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club" enjoyed a strong run on London's West End in 2023 with Redmayne as the Emcee and Jessie Buckley as Bowles. The Broadway production, which opened in April, went on to earn nine Tony nominations, including nods for the two leads and for best musical revival.
