'Some Like It Hot' coming to Broadway
Christian Borle is about to follow in Tony Curtis' high-heeled footsteps this fall when "Some Like It Hot" arrives on Broadway.
Producers announced Wednesday that a new musical based on the Oscar-winning 1959 comedy classic starring Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe will begin previews at the Shubert Theatre on Nov. 1 and open Dec. 11. In addition to Borle, a two-time Tony Award winner for "Peter and the Starcatcher" and "Something Rotten," the cast will also include J. Harrison Ghee in Lemmon's role and Adrianna Hicks as Sugar Kane, the part Monroe played in the movie.
Casey Nicholaw, who directed and choreographed "The Book of Mormon," will take on those duties for "Some Like It Hot." Matthew López and Amber Ruffin will pen the book, or story for the musical, and Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman will write the songs.
The movie, set in the Roaring Twenties, follows two musicians who dress up as women and run off with an all-female orchestra after witnessing a gangland murder. The film was previously turned into the Broadway musical "Sugar." That show ran from April 1972 to June 1973.
