To mark Veterans Day, here are five memorable — and less-than-obvious — TV characters who served in the U.S. military:

ROGER STERLING (John Slattery) “Mad Men’s” hard-partying partner frequently alluded to his service in World War II.

STEVE MCGARRETT (Alex O’Loughlin) “Hawaii Five-O’s” crime task force leader was a Navy SEAL.

SEELEY BOOTH (David Boreanaz) The “Bones” co-star was a master sergeant and Army sniper, serving in the Gulf War, Somalia and Kosovo.

JACK BAUER (Kiefer Sutherland) The man who saved the world each week on “24” did time with the Army’s elite Delta Force.

ABE SIMPSON Homer’s dad (aka Grandpa) was a master sergeant in the Flying Hellfish unit of the Army during World War II. (Evil businessman Montgomery Burns served in the same unit.)
