‘American Idol’ singer Jax battling thyroid cancer

Atlantic Beach-raised singer Jackie Miskanic aka Jax, who finished third place in 2015’s “American Idol” Season 14, is recovering from thyroid cancer.

“The last couple of months I’ve been going through a lot. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer,” the 20-year-old singer, who now lives in East Brunswick, New Jersey, told Trenton radio station WKXW/101.5 FM. “I was going through a lot, traveling a lot, living out of a suitcase. But I was waking up tired a lot, losing my voice and just kind of depressed and in a really dark place,” she said.

She found she had Hashimoto’s disease, in which the immune system attacks the thyroid. Surgery removed the cancerous tumors, and the singer is undergoing iodine treatment.
