The live-action and animated Disney special "Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration" has found its Lumiere, Cogsworth and Mrs. Potts.
ABC announced Monday that comedian-actors Martin Short and David Alan Grier and country music star Shania Twain would play those respective roles as the anthropomorphic candle, clock and teapot. The network also announced Rizwan Manji has joined the cast as Gaston’s sidekick, LeFou, with Jon Jon Briones playing Belle’s father, Maurice, and Leo Abelo Perry as Mrs. Potts' son, Chip. Previously announced stars of this two-hour reimagining of the 1991 animated classic include Grammy and Oscar-winning singer-songwriter H.E.R. as Belle; Tony, Emmy and Grammy-nominated Josh Groban as the Beast; Tony and Grammy-nominated Joshua Henry as Gaston; and EGOT legend Rita Moreno, who spent her teen years in Valley Stream, as narrator.
The original movie, with Paige O'Hara voicing Belle and Robby Benson voicing the Beast, was the first animated feature to be nominated for a best picture Academy Award, and it won Oscars for its score and its title song. A 2017 live-action remake starred Emma Watson and Dan Stevens. The special airs Dec. 15.
