Betty White joins ‘To Tell the Truth’ reboot, 58 years after appearing on original

We cannot tell a lie: ABC is reviving the classic panel show “To Tell the Truth” for a six-week run starting June 14. The show will be hosted by Anthony Anderson, but its real draw is Betty White as one of the panelists.

Certainly the game-show queen, now 94, knows how to play the game, in which a panel of four celebs grill three contestants to determine which one is revealing the truth about their identity. Exactly 58 years ago this week — June 10, 1958, to be precise — White made her first of 40 appearances on the original version of “To Tell the Truth,” joined by fellow panelists Jackie Cooper, Broadway columnist Hy Gardner and “To Tell the Truth” doyenne Kitty Carlisle. In the new version, White’s fellow panelists will include NeNe Leakes (“Real Housewives of Atlanta”).

On her initial outing, White was one for three: She failed to uncover the real Czech Olympic gold medalist Olga Fikatova Connolly and then her husband, hammer thrower Harold Connolly, but had no problem picking out British cowboy star Roy Green. But to tell the truth, it was White’s winning wit and personality that made her a frequent guest on the show.
