CBS News Reporter Robert Pierpoint dies

Robert Pierpoint, one of the great reporters of CBS News who covered Korea, half a dozen presidents and the John F. Kennedy assassination, has died. He was 86, according to the network.

Pierpoint wasn't quite one of "Murrow's Boys" -- that celebrated group of legman  Murrrow had assembled during World War II and in its immediate aftermath, but he had been hired by Murrow (then not-quite-titular head of CBS News, but by far its most famous and important employee) and was promptly sent to cover the Korean War.

Pierpoint also famously covered the JFK assassination, and while Dan Rather was first to covey the report to Walter Cronkite in New York, Pierpoint spent hours at Parkland Memorial Hospital relaying details to millions of viewers.
