Colin Jost takes over 'Weekend Update' on 'SNL'
"Saturday Night Live" has a new "Weekend Update" co-anchor: Colin Jost, the show's co-head writer and an "SNL" veteran who joined nearly a decade ago.
The show announced Thursday that he'll join Cecily Strong on the "Update" desk; Seth Meyers will leave the role Feb. 1, and begin "Late Night with Seth Meyers" Feb. 24.
The "Update" job has long been one of the show's most important roles -- a prized perch from which to offer commentary on current events and politicians, or more specifically, to trash them. It's been a star-making vehicle for years too, with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey among more recent "Update" desk holders.
The Peabody Award-winning Jost has been co-head writer (with Meyers) since 2012. The "Update" characters he's written for include Drunk Uncle, The Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started a Conversation With at a Party and "Second-Hand News" correspondent Anthony Crispino.
