Kelli Giddish, who as Det. Amanda Rollins on NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" survived a rape, being shot by a sniper, and a near-fatal delivery of one of her two children, is leaving the show after 11 seasons.
"I wanted to address the chatter I've seen online and let everyone know that this will, indeed, be my last season," Giddish, 42, wrote on Instagram Wednesday. "Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life. I've been so fortunate to be a part of the 'Law & Order' family for the last 12 years. There is simply no other character on TV like Rollins. She's grown and changed, and I have as well. I started on this show when I was in my late 20s and I'm grateful I got to spend so many of my adult years with Rollins in my life."
In addition to playing the "SVU" detective, Giddish reprised the character on three crossover episodes of "Chicago P.D." and "Chicago Fire." She had initially appeared on "SVU" as a different character in 2007 before going on to star in her own NBC series, "Chase," about U.S. Marshals, immediately before joining "SVU" as Rollins.
"SVU" returns for its 24th season on Sept. 22, along with the original "Law & Order" and the more recent "L&O: Organized Crime." The three shows that night will premiere with a three-way crossover event.
