'Jewish-American princesses" or just plain ol' princesses? E! Tuesday said an upcoming program entitled "Long Island Princesses Unleashed" would in fact have "nothing to do with religion" but instead explore the lives of four women from wealthy area towns.
In a news release, E! explained that "the life of a Long Island 'princess' is sweet. Meet Veronique, Lauren, Pamela and Rachel, American 'royalty' that are enjoying the perks of being young, hot, ambitious and loaded."
You're right: Oh, brother. But a West Coast-based producer also said last week she is casting a "Jersey Shore"-type series starring "Jewish-American princesses" while the Anti-Defamation League national director, Abraham Foxman, said other TV producers had sought his opinion on such shows in recent months. ("We told them, 'Don't do it, it fuels the worst stereotypes,' " he said in an earlier interview.)
An E! spokeswoman said "this show has nothing to do with religion . . . it's not even mentioned," adding, "this is about four young women breaking out on their own."
OK, more from the news release, and you be the judge: "Loud, opinionated and spoiled Veronique still lives in her parents' Long Island mansion and makes the trek into Manhattan when she can to party . . . the token blonde of the group, Pamela, loves the nightlife and is often jet-setting around Manhattan with her promoter boyfriend." Oy.
The show airs May 30 at 10:30 p.m.
