Long Island teen Melanie Martinez wows on 'The Voice'

Melanie Martinez still can't quite believe the newfound success that has come with her memorable performance from "The Voice."

The 17-year-old singer from Baldwin, who charmed three of the four judges on the show Monday night and landed a spot on Adam Levine's team, also saw her jazz-tinged, folk-ish version of Britney Spears' "Toxic" hit the Top 10 on iTunes' alternative chart Tuesday.

"It was absolutely crazy," she said Tuesday. "I did not expect that at all. I'm really just so grateful. It's really surreal. I just can't believe this is happening."

Martinez said she had a hard time keeping her involvement on "The Voice" a secret from her classmates at Baldwin High School and that she is going to have to be home-schooled for her senior year to work on the singing competition.

Martinez, who also got to show off her photography on the show, impressed the judges with her voice and her delivery, especially playing a tambourine with her feet, while playing her acoustic guitar. Her ease on stage is even more surprising considering she's only played a few shows, with the biggest being at the Vibe Lounge in Rockville Centre.

"You're amazing," Levine said, comparing her to Björk.

"I was hearing a unique artist who doesn't sound like anyone else," Blake Shelton said, trying to convince her to join his team. "I think you're a star."

Martinez became the second Long Island teen to reach "The Voice's" second round. Last week, 15-year-old MarissaAnn from Ronkonkoma sang Katy Perry's "Part of Me" to land a spot on Christina Aguilera's team.
