Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj both leaving 'American Idol'

Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj finally agree on something: It's time to leave "American Idol."

Both "Idol" judges announced their exits from the singing competition via Twitter Thursday, saying that they planned on focusing on their music rather than the TV show.

Carey retweeted her publicity firm's announcement of "W/ global success of '#Beautiful' (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol." Minaj tweeted: "Thank you American Idol for a life changing experience! Wouldn't trade it for the world! Time to focus on the music!"

Though Carey and Minaj were musical collaborators and considered each other friends when the show started, their on-screen relationship quickly grew tumultuous, reaching the point where they refused to look at each other during the show. Their battles didn't really end up helping either of their careers or the show's ratings.

Rumors have swirled around the future of nearly everyone at "Idol" after this season's finale drew 40 percent fewer viewers than last season's already shaky finale. It's unclear whether judge Keith Urban will return next season or who will replace Carey, Minaj and original judge Randy Jackson.

Both Carey, a native of Greenlawn, and Minaj, who hails from Jamaica, Queens, have plenty of other options for their post-"Idol" lives. Carey's new single "#Beautiful" moves into the Top 20 on the Billboard charts this week, as she plans to finish recording her still-untitled 13th studio album and prepares for a world tour. Minaj is working on her movie debut "The Other Woman" with Cameron Diaz and director Nick Cassavetes.
