LI's Nancy McKeon performs on 'Dancing With the Stars' with fractured foot
Westbury-born Nancy McKeon soldiered on through her "Uptown Girl" cha-cha on "Dancing With the Stars" Monday night despite fracturing her foot beforehand.
The former "Facts of Life” star, 51, revealed during a pre-taped segment, "My foot's been bothering me for, actually, a couple of weeks. . . . I thought I could get through, but today it seems like something changed and I'm definitely in pain." Viewers then saw a medical professional showing her an X-ray on a smartphone screen. "Can you see this little black line that goes all the way across?" he asks. "That's a fracture."
McKeon was undeterred. "The foot's going to be what it is," she said in the segment, "but I'm going to show up and challenge it."
Following McKeon and partner Val Chmerkovskiy's dance to Billy Joel's 1983 hit, host Tom Bergeron told the star her performance "looked pretty good, given all you're dealing with." Judge Carrie Ann Inanba sympathized that, "It's really hard to dance on a fractured foot. You have to be exactly on your foot so you don't get that searing pain, so that's why you were dancing a little more flat-footed. But you were right on it."
"Thank you, Extra Strength Tylenol," McKeon quipped, and called Chmerkovskiy "this amazing man here. He is just awesome and he's very patient. I appreciate it."
"I feel terrible, y'know," Chmerkovskiy, 31, added. "I'm in charge, y'know. So her broken foot is a product of my negligence to some degree."
