Paul Walker jokes cut from 'Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber' telecast

Jokes referencing the late "Fast & Furious" star Paul Walker, who was killed in a fiery car crash on Nov. 30, 2013, have been excised from the upcoming telecast of the "Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber."

"Roasts often push the limits of good taste and we give the participants full reign to try things knowing we have the edit to shape the show," a network representative said in a statement to Newsday. "Sometimes the line is discovered by crossing it. The Paul Walker references will not be in the telecast."

The roast of pop star Bieber, 21, recorded Saturday at Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles, included a comment by comedian Jeff Ross that referenced a lyric from a song by fellow guest Ludacris, who also stars in the "Fast & Furious" movies. Upon being booed by the audience, according to reports from the roast, Ross asked, "Too soon? Too fast? Too furious?" Those lines were yet another allusion to the star: The second film in the series was 2003's "2 Fast 2 Furious."

Ludacris, who The Hollywood Reporter said was visibly upset by the jokes, himself motioned to cut at one point. Ross told the magazine afterward, "I was so in the moment, I don't know what jokes hit."

Pete Davidson, a "Saturday Night Live" featured player, received a disdainful audience reaction when he threw in a Walker reference while joking about Bieber's arrest for drag racing.

Police said the car in which then 40-year-old Walker, a passenger, died, was not drag racing. Investigators, however, noted that speed was a factor in the crash in the Los Angeles-area suburb of Valencia, Calif.

Comedian Natasha Leggero also made a joking reference to Walker while chiding fellow guest Martha Stewart.

Bieber, who overall accepted the night's jibes with good humor, told People magazine afterward, "I mean, there was a lot of offensive jokes tonight," adding, "I didn't particularly like the Paul Walker jokes."

The roast airs March 30 at 10 p.m. on Comedy Central.
