Fox's LI-set comedy 'Pivoting' premiering in January

"Pivoting," the upcoming Long Island-set comedy from Seaford-raised Liz Astrof, now has a premiere date.

Fox announced Tuesday that the show, set in an unspecified, middle-class Long Island town, debuts Jan. 9 at 8:30 p.m., immediately following the season-2 premiere of Mayim Bialik's "Call Me Kat." "Pivoting" follows three women, friends since childhood, who are shocked from their complacency when a fourth friend unexpectedly dies: Amy (Eliza Coupe, "Happy Endings") is a mom and the producer of a local cooking show; Sarah (Maggie Q, "Designated Survivor"), a burned-out doctor, newly divorced from her wife, who simplifies her life by now working at a grocery; and Jodie (Ginnifer Goodwin, "Once Upon a Time") is a stay-at-home mom of three in a loveless marriage. The show also stars Tommy Dewey as Amy's levelheaded contractor husband Henry, and JT Neal as 27-year-old fitness trainer Matt, who gives Jodie welcome attention and excitement.

Writer-creator Astrof, 51, a Seaford High School graduate who as a young adult lived in Massapequa Park, has been an executive producer of shows including "The Conners," "2 Broke Girls" and "The King of Queens."
