Port Jeff's Maurice DuBois named Ch. 2 anchor

 Maurice DuBois - a graduate of Port Jeff high - has been named co-anchor of WCBS/2's 5 and 11 p.m. newscast. Good for Maurice...

  This was expected - Chris Wragge got a new gig as co-anchor of "The Early Show" starting Jan. 3. 

  The press release exerpts; 

“Maurice has always done a terrific job of being active in the community and possesses both he experience and credibility with viewers in the New York market to ensure that he will make a very smooth transition to his new role as a member of our weeknight anchor team,” Peter Dunn [station boss said.]

            “Maurice is the perfect person to step into this role at this time,” said David Friend, [news chief.]  “He has a great presence in the community and is well respected as a journalist and anchor. 

  Since joining CBS in September 2004, DuBois has primarily anchored the weekday editions of CBS 2 News This Morning.   He has also served as a substitute anchor for the weekend editions of THE CBSEVENING NEWS and THE EARLY SHOW.

            Prior to joining CBS 2, DuBois spent seven years at WNBC-TV, where he co-anchored “Today inNew York.”  While at WNBC, he also hosted a number of specials that examined topics ranging from kidsand violence to community events such as parades and telethons.   He also served as a substitute newsanchor for “Today,” “Weekend Today,” “NBC News at Sunrise” and MSNBC and as a co-host of “WeekendToday.”

            Before coming home to New York in 1997, DuBois was an anchor and reporter for WFLD-TV inChicago and KCRA-TV in Sacramento.  He began his career in 1987 at KING-TV in Seattle, where he workedas a desk assistant before becoming a reporter.   He earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism fromNorthwestern University.
