A few weeks, or maybe months ago, Rob Lowe tweeted that he'd heard Peyton Manning was retiring and you would have thought a cure for world peace had just been announced.

Websites, bloggers, tweeters and other assorted troublemakers relayed this as though it were fact, and when it did not turn out to be fact, Lowe then became cannon fodder for whatever deep-seated frustrations they had about relaying the bad info in the first place.

It was all just ridiculous, and was a perfect example of how the silly new world of information works (if a major celebrity says something that is unscripted, it must be news!). Oh brother. Anyway, Lowe had good natured fun with this last night on “Late Show with David Letterman,” and explained said tweet's genesis.
