Rock Hudson, George Hamilton and more notable ‘Dynasty’ stars

The classic ’80s prime-time soap “Dynasty” gets rebooted for the 21st century on Wednesday, Oct. 11, when The CW’s update premieres. The original show, which aired from 1981 to 1989, not only revived the careers of both Joan Collins and John Forsythe, but during its run also featured many Hollywood notables in its extensive cast. Take these five:
ROCK HUDSON (1984-85) In his last role before his death from AIDS, Hudson played horse breeder Daniel Reece, who had a fling with Krystle Carrington (Linda Evans).
ALI MACGRAW (1985) The “Love Story” star was Lady Ashley Mitchell, a jet-set photographer who had flings with both Blake and the much-younger Jeff Colby (John James). She was fatally gunned down (with many others) at the infamous Moldavian wedding massacre that ended the 1984-85 season.
DIAHANN CARROLL (1984-87) The star of “Julia” and “Claudine” played scheming singer Dominique Deveraux, who turned out to be the illegitimate half-sister of Blake Carrington (Forsythe).
BILLY DEE WILLIAMS (1984-85) After starring in “Lady Sings the Blues” and “The Empire Strikes Back,” Williams showed up on “Dynasty” as Brady Lloyd, Dominique’s record-mogul husband, who eventually divorced her.
GEORGE HAMILTON (1985-86) The man with the tan played Joel Abrigore, a washed-up Hollywood director. In one of the campiest subplots, he engineered kidnapping Krystle and then substituting a look-alike actress who moved into the Carrington mansion.
