Nickelodeon has canceled the teen sitcom "Sam & Cat," a spinoff of both "iCarly" and "Victorious," starring two of those shows' stars.

"Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of 'Sam & Cat,' " a network representative said in a statement. "We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast and we wish them all the best."

The series -- starring 22-year-old Jennette McCurdy as Sam Puckett of "iCarly" and 21-year-old Ariana Grande as Cat Valentine of "Victorious" as roommates running a baby-sitting business -- will end with its 36th episode, airing Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

"Sam & Cat" debuted in June 2013 as the network's most-watched live-action premiere in three years.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Grande thanked the cast, crew and fans, and alluded to having known of the cancellation. "So the news is out about 'Sam & Cat,' " she wrote. "I felt it wasn't my place to make any sort of announcement so I kept quiet until now."
