A Huntington Station man died in a head-on collision Friday morning on Main Road in Aquebogue, according to Riverhead Town police.

Police responded at 11:47 a.m. to the crash between a 2018 BMW and 2002 Nissan that occurred east of Union Avenue. The driver of the Nissan, Matthew Schramm, 67, suffered extensive injuries and later died at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, police said.

The driver of the BMW, Anthony Croce, 65, of Brooklyn, suffered "significant injuries" that were not life threatening, police said.

No passengers were in either vehicle.

The Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Schramm to PBMC where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, police said. Croce was transported by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Riverhead detectives and New York State Police responded to the scene and an investigation remains ongoing. Police did not disclose a cause of the crash or whether any criminality was involved.
