A peek at some of the new programs at LI summer camps

Here’s a smattering of some of the new programs starting at camps across Long Island this summer:

• The Madison Theatre at Molloy College in Rockville Centre is offering a Broadway Boot Camp from July 9 to 13, with students ages 9 to 18 receiving instruction in sight singing, dance and movement, voice and speech, musicianship and improvisation. There will also be a Musical Theatre Intensive plus Broadway Boot Camp from July 9 to Aug. 12. A video audition is required for all students; madisontheatreny.org.
• Camps ‘R’ Us, which offers weekly sessions in arts and crafts, sports, bowling, swimming and more for kids ages 3 to 15, has added two new locations, in East Rockaway and St. James; campsrus.org.
• Camp W in Melville has a new fitness room and now offers half-day trips for senior campers on a weekly basis; campwdaycamp.com.
• Miss Sue’s Summer Fun at Miss Sue’s Preschool & Day Camp in Plainview has new areas for younger children, including a mini hockey rink, mini soccer and baseball fields and a mini basketball court. There is also a new science, technology, engineering and math program; misssuesnurseryschool.com.
• Camp Gan Israel of Roslyn has a new location at New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury; ganisraelroslyn.com.
• iD Tech has new locations at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, Adelphi University in Garden City and New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, with programs for kids ages 7 to 17 in programming, game design, 3-D modeling, robotics and cyber security; idtech.com.
• The Laurel Hill School Summer Camp in East Setauket has a new outdoor science classroom that covers 10,000 square foot and includes farm animals. Programs are available for infants through 10th-graders; laurelhillschool.org.
• Park Shore Country Day Camp in Dix Hills has hired a Stony Brook University professor for its Extreme Steam science camp. The camp will include SnappyXO, a patent-pending modular robotics kit designed and developed in the university’s Computer-Aided Design and Innovation lab in Stony Brook University; extremesteamcamp.com.
• The Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts in Wheatley Heights is launching Matinee Idols, a three-week intensive musical theater course that will study the new “Mean Girls” musical. The camp will also introduce a creative-writing program, as well as a course from puppet ensemble Puppet Kitchen and a rock band program that is open to students who play drums, bass, guitar, keyboard and select strings, as well as voice musicians; usdan.org.
• Camp Edey in Bayport has introduced Corcls, round boats that can be used while sitting or kneeling, with a paddle, for students in third grade and up; nwsdy.li/edey.
• The YMCA of Long Island, which offers summer day camps in Glen Cove, Huntington, Bay Shore, Patchogue and East Hampton for children ages 3 to 15, is introducing a new Pick Your Camp Weeks program that will allow parents to choose from up to 10 weeks of camp from June 25 to Aug. 31, with the option for discounts, as well as monthly payment plans; ymcali.org/summer-day-camp.
• The School of Rock in Farmingdale is holding two themed sessions. That ’70s Camp, from July 9 to 20, explores the hard rock sounds of bands such as Pink Floyd, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Journey, REO Speedwagon, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. The ’80s vs. ’90s camp, from July 30 to Aug. 10, explores the shift from pop music from musicians such as Michael Jackson and Prince to grunge bands such as Green Day, Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam; nwsdy.li/SOR.
