A book club is an exciting way to learn

Book clubs are an exciting way to have a conversation about books. There are two types of book clubs: ones with just four or five kids and ones with the entire class. Questions and connections from the book can be recorded on paper or the teacher's device, perhaps an iPad. It is fun to hear other kids' opinions on the books you like to read. I think a book club's groups should be split up by different reading levels. It is important to choose just the right books so you can understand and enjoy the books you read.

Some of the books you might enjoy reading in a book club in elementary school are "Because of Winn-Dixie" by Kate DiCamillo, "Half Magic" by Edward Eager, "The Lemonade War" by Jacqueline Davies, "Stone Fox" by John Gardiner and "Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing" by Judy Blume. And be aware: The book "Stone Fox" is very sad, and you probably will cry at the end!

Maybe you can start a book club or ask your teacher about it. Even if you can't get one started with your class, maybe you could ask the school librarian. If that doesn't work, start one on your own!
