On Jan.1, 2019, the third season of the Netflix show “A Series of Unfortunate Events” began. This show was about the three siblings Violet, Sunny and Klaus Baudelaire. They went on many adventures trying to defeat the villainous Count Olaf. Olaf created fires that didn’t just destroy property, but tore families like the Baudelaires apart. Actress Allison Williams plays the character Kit Snicket, who is part of a secret organization to stop these fires, and she helps the kids in their quests along the way.
On Monday, Jan. 7, we went to AOL Build Studio in Manhattan to interview Allison. We spoke with her and then watched her get interviewed live on television. She gave us some interesting and detailed answers. We asked Allison how she reacted when she found out she would be on “A Series of Unfortunate Events”? She explained how she was excited beyond words and she was so happy to be able to meet the cast and get started.
In our research, we found out that Brian Williams, a journalist, is her dad. We wanted to know what is it like having a newscaster dad. She loves having a newscaster for a father because it made her develop a deep interest in news. She also was telling about how much she enjoyed being able to know about the news a minute before the rest of the world because her dad would tell her. She told how her dad met her mom through newscasting because her mom was her dad’s boss. Her brother also became a sportscaster, so she said newscasting basically runs in her family.
We also wanted to know if she preferred stage, TV or movies. Allison said she prefers acting in TV shows because they take you on an adventure and introduce the characters through a series of episodes instead of introducing them and seeing them once like in a play or movie. She added that with a TV show, many stories are told in one show. You can feel like a part of their family and you can understand more of what they’re going through.
With “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” we wanted to know what was the hardest part of the show to film. Allison explained the difficulties for her to act out like driving an old stick shift taxi. She also faced other problems such as punching through ice and reciting the hard lines featured in the show.
Since she is on camera a lot we asked her if she was OK with people always doing her hair and makeup. She laughed and looked over at her makeup crew and said, “Yes,” because they make her look like the best person she can be. She likes doing her own styling as well but wishes they were with her all the time.
Allison answered why she was drawn to the adventures of the Baudelaire family which was due to her interest in the original book series she had read before she was cast in Kit’s role. The suspenseful and humorous plot intrigued her.
Another question we asked was if she had to make any lifestyle changes while playing the role of Kit Snicket. She said that she had to include a lot of protein into her diet. She continued to say that she added protein to her diet because her character Kit was always on an adventure and did a lot of running. The protein she added most was peanut butter.
In one adventure on the show, Allison has to dive into the water. We wanted to know what it was like filming that. She responded with that she didn’t actually take it all in one shot. She said that one day they shot her jumping off the cliff. So, one day they would film her as she was flying through the air. Another they shot was her breaking the ice.
She also shared and explained the similarities between her and her character. They are both people who enjoy working and they can both get things done. They are both brave though Williams said she could never be as courageous as Kit was. These connections helped her transform into the character on a deeper level.
After our interview we were invited to sit in the audience and watch Allison get interviewed on the AOL Build show. We liked that she looked over to us a few times during the show and two of us even got to ask Allison more questions. We think she is an amazing person and we had so much fun talking with her.
