Apps for kids: StoryBots 'Starring You' Storybooks review
Most toddlers and young kids know how to use an iPhone or iPad. It amazes me what my daughter Maggie has learned from some of the educational apps.
When I stumbled upon a new one, Starring You Storybooks by StoryBots, I knew it was something Maggie would enjoy.
The app was created by the JibJab Brothers, who made videos such as the viral Elf Yourself. Now that they're dads, they've decided to use the "Starring You" personalization technology to put kids in the center of storybooks.
This app is perfect for kids ages 2-6, and there are multiple e-books to choose from as well as interactive videos, activity sheets and more.
It's pretty simple to set up, too: Just upload a photo of your child and insert him or her into the action; the app does the rest of the work.
The app is free and comes with one free book. You can sign up to receive a new book every month for $3.99. Additional titles are $1.99, with 18 themed books available ranging from pizza and circus to trucks and princesses. The books can be purchased in the iTunes app store.
Other free StoryBots interactives include the "Starring You" Band video series, ABC Jamboree (a collection of 28 one-minute music videos to help kids recognize sounds and shapes of letters of the alphabet) and the StoryBots Activity Center on StoryBots.com, where you can download and print more than 100 activity sheets, including coloring, tracing, mazes and word finds.
