When Bari Koral brings her Family Rock Band to Port Washington on Oct. 19, the performance will incorporate elements of her new yoga-and-music kids TV show, Yogapalooza, which debuts Saturday on Z Living.
Koral, who grew up in East Meadow, is hosting the half-hour children’s television show, which is geared to kids from preschool to third grade. Its point is to combine music and movement, and for kids at home to exercise along with the kids on the screen, Koral says. Each show has a theme, such as dinosaurs, that will be incorporated into the music and yoga poses.
Koral has been a Yogi for 20 years in addition to being the leader of the Bari Koral Family Rock Band, which has released four children’s music albums. The band’s jazz bassist Dred Scott and drummer Eric Halverson both appear with Koral on Yogapalooza.
“Initially I kept it separate,” Koral says of her work with yoga and her performing for families. Then she had an epiphany. “Why am I keeping all my worlds separate? Everything should come together.”
Koral, who is 45, says she was inspired to model Yogapalooza after her own childhood favorites, “Romper Room” and “Magic Garden.” Koral filmed 52 episodes of Yogapalooza in a studio over the summer, each show featuring three children. “It was madness for an entire summer,” she says.
Each weekly show will air at 8 a.m. and repeat at 10:30 a.m.
Koral's Port Washington conert is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Oct. 19 at Landmark on Main Street in Port Washington. For tickets, visit landmarkonmainstreet.org.
