The beach is a very special place for me. It is where my family goes every summer for vacation.

We go for a week in South Carolina and one week in the Outer Banks in North Carolina. The beach in the summer is hot and busy with people, and the sounds are beautiful. Waves crashing, birds singing, fish jumping, my siblings laughing and fighting, because that is what siblings do. The sand is soft and hot, and seashell hunts are fun.

I like the summer beaches down South, but I am so lucky because I get to visit the beach during my favorite times of year — fall and winter — when we head out to Hampton Bays. During the cool months we go to the beach to enjoy the quiet and notice the changes on the beach. The water is calmer, and some days you can see the cool frost hovering over it. The ground isn’t really sandy but rocky. There are usually a few people there: some dog walkers, some water-watchers and my mama with me and my six siblings. We make the most noise. But as my mama says, “It is the prettiest noise together.”

Winter is my favorite time of year at the beach. The temperature is comfortable, crowds are few and I am happy when I can run around with my siblings. It is a very picturesque and calming place for me.
