'Descendants" is Disney's newest summer musical starring Dove Cameron (Mal, the daughter of Maleficent), Cameron Boyce (Carlos, the son of Cruella De Vil), Booboo Stewart (Jay, the son of Jafar), Sofia Carson (Evie, the daughter of the Evil Queen) and Kristin Chenoweth (Maleficent). Disney has combined many princes and princesses and their kids along with villains and their kids in this new movie.
A contemporary charming heir to the throne, the helpful teenage son of King "Beast" and Queen Belle wants the troublesome kids to have a chance at normal life. The villains and their children live on a secluded island, the Isle of the Lost. The villains' children are allowed to attend a prep school with the heroes' kids in the kingdom of Auradon.
Our favorite actors in this movie were Kristen, Dove and Cameron. "Evil Like Me" and "Did I Mention" were just two of the songs that were stuck in our heads for days! Plot twists make this movie even more exciting and suspenseful. A clever story line and talented actors make this musical fun for both kids and adults. Do villains get a happily ever after? Tune into Disney Channel July 31 at 8 p.m. find out.
Earlier this week we met Booboo Stewart and Sofia Carson and talked to them about the movie:
Booboo, how was filming "Descendants" different from filming the "Twilight Saga"?
To be able to work with them [the cast] is pretty amazing. It's cool. It's different. It's a whole other realm of movies. Being on "Twilight" is nothing like being on "Descendants."
When preparing for the role of Jafar's son Jay, did you watch "Aladdin" to prepare for the role?
I watched all of them. I actually brought them with me and you definitely have to have something to draw off of.
Sofia, how did you prepare for your role?
I watched the original "Snow White," and I looked at the evil Queen and Snow White as well and kind of saw the relationship, and the chemistry and try to draw a little bit from them. The evil Queen was always very evil and she was always glamorous and very fashionable. I wanted to put a little bit of that in Evie. Snow White was so delicate and beautiful.
Sofia, what lesson do you think girls can learn from your character Evie?
Being the evil Queen's daughter, Evie was raised to believe that beauty was everything and that what mattered to her was to find herself as a girl was her reflection in the mirror. As a girl I find that it's so easy to fall into that trap to be skinnier, or prettier or more beautiful, to have to find a boyfriend, all these pressures that we feel and Evie just really taught me that that's not what matters, what matters is who you are inside.
