Citi Field has great activities for young Mets fans

I have been enjoying trips to Citi Field to watch the Mets play baseball since it opened in 2009. One of the things I love about visiting the park is Fan Fest. That’s an area with free activities for kids, including a dunk tank, batting cages, a miniature baseball field and Kiddie Field, where kids can hit, field and run the bases.

Family Sundays are awesome days for kids to have fun at Citi Field. There are pregame activities. After the game, the kids get to run around the bases on the same field as the pros, with Mr. and Mrs. Met cheering them on!

I got my chance to find out more about Fan Fest, Family Sundays, and how the Mets reach out to the community when I interviewed Mr. Tim Walsh, marketing assistant for the Mets. He explained that the Fan Fest helpers are all specially trained to meet the needs of all kids.

I found out that many of the employees working at Fan Fest are teachers, camp counselors, or other professionals who have lots of experience working with kids, including those with special needs.

According to Mr. Walsh, Family Sundays are really popular. They have about 1,000 participants each week. The Mets team visits schools, and community organization. They participate in so many activities that they have an entire department just for that purpose. It’s called Community Engagement. I play with the College Point Little League. Last year, my coach registered us for the Mets “Play-ball Clinic.” Mookie Wilson and other retired players trained us.

Another great thing about the team is Mets Kids Club. The membership includes two free tickets to a Mets game and a fast pass for the Mr. Met Dash on Family Sundays. If anyone is looking to sign up, they can go to mets.com/KidsClub
