‘Eddie the Eagle’ review: Inspiring Olympics movie
We got to see the awesome and touching movie “Eddie the Eagle”! We had never heard anything about Eddie Edwards before this — but we found out that Eddie Edwards (played by Taron Egerton) is a real person from England, who always wanted to compete in the Olympics. The movie was about his inspiring struggle to be on an Olympic team, even though he had little support from anyone, except his mother. His mother encouraged his dreams even when he was very young. Eddie’s father was a plasterer and wanted Eddie to give up on his Olympic dreams and get a job like his.
His Olympic dream finally came true when he got older and discovered ski jumping. He dedicated himself to the sport and practiced really hard, although it was rare for anyone from England to participate in the sport. Eddie even used his own money to achieve his dream.
The movie was funny and uplifting. Eddie never stopped believing in himself. Even when he failed, he always got back up and went right back to work! He kept on going, even when other skiers said hateful things to him. Despite this, Eddie cherished every moment there, the good and the bad. The movie was even better because Hugh Jackman (“Wolverine”!) played Eddie’s coach, an American named Bronson Peary. In the movie, Peary taught Eddie how to do the 70- and 90-meter ski jumps. Eddie was such a captivating spirit that he inspired Peary, who had had a bad time in his own Olympics.
Our favorite parts of the movie were where Eddie finally skied down the 90-meter jump and made the landing. Eddie broke all the British ski jumping records with his performance. Everyone cheered.
This movie was great because it shows that if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.
We rate this movie a 4.5 smiles (out of 5).
