Throughout the summer, the Sachem Public Library offers programs for kids to adults.

To sign up for any of the programs, you need your library card. One program I went to this summer was a library scavenger hunt. When I got there I got put in a group. Each group got an envelope with letters that spelled the name of an ocean creature -- that was your team name. (My team was the otters.)

Each team went to the same places in the library, but in a different order. At one point in the hunt everybody would visit the adult reference and teen sections, the children's room and the garden. We had to find seafood cookbooks, the call number for a book about deep sea diving, and count things in the garden.

I liked how it didn't matter when you finished -- it mattered how you did. We got prizes for participating, and the winning team got water bottles. I thought this program was so much fun. If you get a chance, I would recommend that you check out some of the programs your library has to offer.
