Good Samaritan Hospital opens Mother Baby Unit
Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center has just opened a new Mother Baby Unit with six private rooms where mothers and newborns remain together for their hospital stay.
Each room has a bassinette for baby, a mini refrigerator and a full bath. It’s decorated with soothing wall coverings and artwork, and has a chair that expands to a recliner for a partner. The private rooms have a nightly surcharge of $200.
“New parents today are becoming more sophisticated, and they’re shopping around and know what thay’re looking for for their birth experience,” said Theresa Jacobellis, assistant vice president of public affairs and marketing at the West Islip hospital. “They like private rooms, they like for the partner to have a place to stay overnight. It’s really to foster bonding with the family spending these first hours and days together.”
Close to 2,800 babies are delivered at the Good Samaritan every year. Good Samaritan is a member of Catholic Health Services of Long Island.
