73°Good Morning

Do you know what AAC stands for? It stands for augmentative and alternative communication. It is used to express thoughts, needs and ideas of people who are unable to use speech to communicate or are difficult to understand.

People who have severe speech or language problems can use an AAC device. People can use gestures (their hands), pictures, devices or sign language.

A speech language pathologist (a person who helps people learn to communicate) can help figure out which type of AAC device is appropriate for each person.

AAC devices are created uniquely to fit the needs of each individual.

You can use an AAC device by hitting a switch, by moving your eyes and by touching the device.
