My brother Andrew and I are volunteers for Kids Adopt a Shelter. Kids Adopt a Shelter is an organization that recruits kids to adopt animal shelters and rescues and raise funds for them. Those kids hold fundraisers and collect donations like dog and cat food as well as toys and other items for the shelters they adopted. For example, my brother and I set up stands at local pet stores and craft fairs, where we sell snacks, homemade chocolates and homemade dog treats. We also have a large garage sale and a Facebook fundraising page. We use all the donated money and gift cards to buy food, toys, collars, leashes and much more for our four adopted shelters. We also place donation boxes in our school and local stores. We receive many donations from our classmates and teachers.

My brother and I found out about Kids Adopt a Shelter at its second annual Pet Adoption Fashion Show, where rescues bring their adoptable pets and dogs get to dress up and walk the runway. We decided to join because we love animals and want all dogs and cats to have loving homes. If you want to join KAS, go to kidsadoptashelter.org
