Kidsday review: Disney's 'Lemonade Mouth'

We got a sneak peek of the Disney movie “Lemonade Mouth,” which airs tonight.
The movie begins with an awesome video of the band. We recognized some of the cast from other Disney shows. Bridgit Mendler from “Good Luck Charlie” is lead singer Olivia. Adam Hicks from “Zeke & Luther” plays Wen the keyboardist. Hayley Kiyoko from “Wizards of Waverly Place” is lead guitarist Stella. Other band members are Naomi Scott, who plays Mo the bass player, and Blake Michael, who is Charlie the drummer.
The movie starts with the kids being sent to detention. You get to see each one’s problem — they all have something to do with their parents. While in detention, the music teacher asks them to help clean. The teacher is upset because the music room has been moved to the basement and her budget has been cut. The principal cares more about sports than the arts. As the kids clean up, they play around with musical instruments, and end up playing a song.
The teacher talks them into forming a band so they can enter a talent show. That scene was lots of fun because it all starts with Charlie tapping his fingers on the desk. The rest of the kids join in.
One of the problems in the movie is Olivia is very shy. She doesn’t want to sing in front of people. It’s hard to get up onstage if you are afraid people will laugh at you. In the end, the other kids convince her to give it a try.
Throughout the movie, the kids drink lemonade from a machine near the detention room. When they first start playing, cool kids make fun of them. Stella spits lemonade at one; he calls her “Lemonade Mouth,” and that’s how they come up with the band’s name.
The principal doesn’t like the band because they start fighting against him, making their own decisions. They became a symbol to other kids that they should be heard, be strong, be proud and not just accept what adults want them to do. In the end, the kids tell their parents about the problems they are causing, and everything turns out OK.
The movie shows kids how they should stand up for what they believe. We think it was really good. We’d watch it again anytime. We think the music is cool and we like the songs because different kids from their group get to sing. There is another band in the movie, and they have some neat music, too.
The movie airs April 15 at 8 p.m. on the Disney Channel.
