Kidsday talks with actor-singer Mitchel Musso
We interviewed singer and actor Mitchel Musso when he was in Manhattan recently. Mitchel was on the Disney show “Hannah Montana,” and now co-stars on “Pair of Kings.”
Now that you’re famous, do you miss your privacy?
I still have privacy. We all have privacy when the door shuts. No, I don’t mind. I like it. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
What is your favorite song that you wrote?
Good question. I like “Come Back My Love” a lot. It depends. I like a lot of the songs that I write with my brother because I think he’s so talented. I think he makes music sound really good. But definitely between “Count Your Heart,” “Come Back My Love” and “Open the Door.” They’re all going to be new songs off my record because I’ve heard my old records so many times. So I don’t have a specific song that I love that I’ve written, but there’s a lot.
How is it working with Miley Cyrus?
It’s good. It’s awesome. It was a roller coaster. But all of them, Emily , Jason Earles], Billy Ray , Moises , everyone who is on that show. We were a big family over there. Right now it just so happens that Miley’s on tour. She’s in Europe. So two completely different time slots, so we don’t talk much right now. But we keep each other apprised with what’s going on, which is good.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself making music, sticking to my guns with what I know, writing, producing. I don’t know, there’s a lot of things. I’m an entrepreneur when it comes to just business. I like investing and things. I like to see products grow. It depends. Who knows? I don’t even know what I’m doing tomorrow.
When did you become interested in singing?
My parents had us in a theater growing up when we were kids because that’s what they did. They owned a community theater in their free time. They’d go to the theater with their friends and their friends would have this theater and they did different plays all the time. They were singing, dancing and acting. And I just think just from me and Mason and Mark being around it for so long it just kind of came. When I was about 6 I asked my mother to give me piano lessons. I kept going until about 11 or 12 and then I stopped. I just started going back about a year ago because I forgot you have to keep practicing. It’s like always practicing something that you like.
How is your music career?
My music career is great. The only way that it could be going better is if I was on tour right now. I want to be on tour where I have one or two shows a day. But it doesn’t work like that. Contracts and stuff.
Who would you like to perform with?
I would like to perform with, honestly, a rapper, if that makes sense. I’d go in and do the scene and someone comes in and raps. It think that will be cool.
Are you planning on going on tour anytime soon?
Yeah, I’m going to go as soon as the show’s done. If we’re shooting through September. By October, maybe I’ll take a minute off, but I’ll do it in the middle of October. But honestly I think I’ll go straight to Europe.
