Live bug exhibit opens at Long Island Aquarium

Live ants, spiders, beetles and other bugs have been welcomed into the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center in Riverhead -- they'll be the stars of a new exhibit called, simply, "Bugs."
The exhibit is in the Exhibition Center and consists of three parts: The Leafcutter Labyrinth features leafcutter ants from the tropical rainforests of South America. Bug Bungalow showcases the Giant Orbweaving Spider, grasshoppers and more. Venomous, Jewels & Giants spotlights venomous insects and spiders such as the Black Widow (pictured) and the Brazilian Wandering Spider, insects with jewel-like colors such as the Stag Beetles and Orchid Mantises, and giant bugs such as the Hercules Beetle.
The exhibit is sponsored by Suburban Exterminating and is included with aquarium admission of $27.95 for adults, $21 for children 3 to 12; $23.50 for seniors ages 62 and older and free for children 2 and younger. The aquarium is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 431 E. Main St. in Riverhead.
