“The Water Princess” (Putnam, $17.99) by East Hampton-based author Susan Verde is a children’s picture book inspired by the story of New York fashion model Georgie Badiel, who spent much of her childhood in Burkina Faso, West Africa, where collecting clean drinking water was a daily chore. Proceeds from the book’s advance and royalties will go to help build wells in Badiel’s home region via The Ryan’s Well Foundation and The Georgie Badiel Foundation.

“Dweezil” (Featherweight, $10.99) by Massapequa Park author and illustrator Lisa Passen is a paperback, 116-page chapter book about a lovable but dumb, dirty and lazy dog with a fondness for fried chicken. It tells the tale of what happens when he’s cruelly separated from The Old Man who takes care of him.

Commack resident Nancy Lang-Feldman has written and illustrated a picture book called “Hermann Finds Home” (Rex Imperator, $14.95) about a pet tortoise that gets lost but finds a happy ending in the wild. The book includes an appendix with fun facts about tortoises around the world.
