LI Children's Museum throws 25th anniversary bash, rolls back prices

It’s a celebration at the Long Island Children’s Museum in Garden City this weekend as the museum turns 25 and throws itself an Ultimate Birthday Bash. And, on Nov. 21 -- the museum’s actual anniversary -- prices will roll back to the 1993 cost of $5 per person (admission is $12).
Activities, demonstrations and live performances are scheduled during this weekend’s museum hours of noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Lynbrook musician Danny Weinkauf and his Red Pants Band will lead visitors in singing “Happy Birthday” at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, and festivities will conclude at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday with a confetti cannon.
Performances in the theater each day include Danny Weinkauf and the Red Pants Band; the National Circus Project; The Big Bolt performance preview, and the New York Korean Traditional Marching Band. At the end of their performance, the band will lead visitors on a march throughout the building.
Crafts activities will include making Silver Soiree Hats -- silver is the color traditionally used to mark a 25th year -- and helping artists Mica Angela Hendricks and Brooks Frederick create a 25-square-foot collaborative painting.
A pay-one-price ticket costing $20 per person each day covers admission, treats and all activities. Children younger than 2 are free. Museum memberships, library passes and discount coupons are not valid.
On Nov. 21, the museum’s actual anniversary, the rollback price will mark the date the museum opened its doors in 5,000 square feet of donated space. In 2002, the museum opened the current 40,000 square foot building at 11 Davis Ave. on Museum Row in Garden City. More than 4.8 million visitors have experienced the museum since 1993.
