A baby goat sitting in my lap? Yes, please!
After the anticipated eight to 10 baby goats are born at the Long Island Game Farm in Manorville this May, visitors may have the chance to snuggle with them. A new experience lets visitors get up-close-and-personal with a baby or adult goat, even letting them climb into their laps for about 20 minutes, says Game Farm president Melinda Novak.
That's just one new offering at the Game Farm, which kicks off its 55th anniversary year at 10 a.m. May 3 (rain date May 4). Admission for that day will be reduced to $15 per person. The kickoff day will be hosted by former News 12 anchor and reporter Doug Geed, and will include a ribbon cutting of a new half-mile Woodland Trail suitable for strollers and a musical performance on the new Susan M. Novak Stage.
The Game Farm is expanding its one-to-one experiences with animals this summer, Novak says. In addition to the goat snuggle, the park is also offering a combined back-to-back capybara and wallaby experience. Previously, the experiences were only offered separately, Novak says.
The encounters are available by appointment, scheduled on the game farm website, for an additional as-yet-undetermined fee, she says. "People really want them. They want that extra special experience; they want that one-on-one experience where they can get close," Novak says.
Also new this summer is "Songbird Sessions," an outdoor summer concert series from 6 to 8 p.m. on select Saturdays, presented by the Foundation for Wildlife Sustainability.
Game farm admission is $26.95 for adults, $19.95 for children 3 to 12 and free for younger than 3.
