Long Island Nets Kids to hold auditions for dancers
Want to be a Long Island Nets Kids dancer? The Nets are holding free open auditions for the inaugural dance team of kids ages 6 to 13 at 11 a.m. June 24 at LIU Post Pratt Recreation Center at 720 Northern Blvd. in Brookville. Registration begins at 10 a.m.
For competitors looking to gain an edge, audition workshops will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 17 and from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 21 at the rec center. Workshops are open to dancers ages 6 to 13 and are $50 each. Workshop participants will learn routines similar to what is performed on the court. Long Island Nets Kids will perform at select Nets home games at NYCB Live’s Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and will represent the Nets at community events and media appearances.
Potential dancers should have at least two years of dance training. Tumbling and break-dancing skills are a plus but not required. Participants should wear dance attire and non-marking sneakers or dance shoes. One parent or legal guardian must be present at registration to sign a participation waiver; only those auditioning will be allowed into the gymnasium. Finalists should be prepared to stay until 9:30 p.m. Those selected must be able to attend rehearsals on Long Island once a week.
