New electronic games for kids

Here are three of the hot new electronic games for kids:

The Disney Infinity game has launched. Players create stories and experiences by placing toy characters from Walt Disney Co. and Pixar Animation Studios onto a device called Disney Infinity Base. Characters are transported into virtual worlds of Monsters University, the Incredibles, Pirates of the Caribbean, Cars, and The Lone Ranger, and into a Toy Box. Compatible with Nintendo Wii, Wii-U, Xbox 360 and PlayStation3. Geared to ages 8-12, it is $74.99 for the Starter Pack, which includes the game, the Infinity Base and three interactive figures.

Plants vs. Zombies 2, the sequel to PopCap Games' Plants vs. Zombies, is a time-traveling adventure that takes players to various historical eras to fight with zombies. While most of the game is free to play, Plants vs. Zombies 2 players also can purchase upgrades and other in-game items. Right now, it's available only for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch; it will become available for other platforms later this year.

Coming next month is Skylanders SWAP Force from Activision. The newest game in the franchise lets players reconfigure 16 action figures into more than 250 characters by "swapping" top and bottom halves of their bodies -- mixing and matching changes in the characters' powers and moves. Compatible with Nintendo Wii, Wii-U, 3DS, Xbox 360, Xbox 1 and PlayStation 3 and 4. For ages 10 and older, cost is $74.99 for Starter Pack.
