New Halloween apps for kids
Kids afraid of monsters lurking in their bedrooms on Halloween — or any night? Monster Scout, a new app by Monomyth Studio, performs a quick smartphone “scan” of the room to uncover creatures that might be hiding — from an illustration of a friendly werewolf to a cartoonish ghost. If the monster is found, the child pushes the “monster remover” button. Mom and Dad control which monsters, if any, pop up. 99 cents; monsterscoutapp.com.
Carve It! is a free app from Redrom Interactive that lets kids create jack-o’-lanterns without any of the mess. Kids can “carve” as many as they want and save their creations to the gallery.
With Halloween Sounds Pro by Dream Injector, kids can pick a scary sound, set the timer and hide the device. When the timer goes off, unsuspecting friends get spooked!
Kids can transform into virtual zombies using a photo of themselves and the app “The Walking Dead: Dead Yourself” by AMC. Add zombie eyes, mouths and props from the TV show “The Walking Dead.”
