LI kids meet Nickelodeon actress Lizzy Greene

We met actress Lizzy Greene when she was in Manhattan recently. We like her so much in her role as Dawn Harper on the Nickelodeon show “Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn.” We also enjoyed her in the movie “Tiny Christmas.”

Did you ever have to take acting classes when you were younger?

Actually, I did. I did some here and there. I love acting classes, because they are definitely the time to learn. I did a few here and there before I went on auditions. Overall, I would do more with a group rather than one-on-one.

What was your most memorable episode that you were on?

In “Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn,” probably the “[Wonderful] Wizard of Quads.” You ever see that? That’s my favorite episode, because I felt like I was on Broadway, because it was this production where we were singing and dancing. It was so fun, my favorite, because I got to sing, I got to dance, and the sets and the costumes were amazing. And just seeing that, and being in the room with all of the cameras and all of the munchkins, and being dressed as Dorothy. This is like a dream come true for me. Being in my dress, being with the shoes and everything, and the braids and the dog. I literally felt like I was Dorothy on Broadway, so it was really fun.

Do you have any brothers or sisters? If so, how many?

I have one brother. He’s 17. He was a total handful. He’s all about hanging out with his friends. He never wants to hang out with me. So I always bug him about that, but he’s just silly. He’s kind of like having Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, kind of like having three brothers, but just one. So he’s a handful.

What’s your favorite show or movie that you’ve been in?

“Tiny Christmas” was so fun for me. That was one of the best projects I’ve ever done. We were in Canada, so I was definitely away from home.

Do you miss home cooking, or do you like eating out?

I love both. My grandma, I have to say, makes a mean cake. She does cakes really well. So I always love going to her house and eating angel food cake. But at the same time I love sushi.

Is it hard to keep in touch with the friends you had before you were on TV?

I’ve made so many amazing friends in LA. I’ve made some of the best friends in my entire life there. But I do have my best friend in Texas. Her name is Ellie. She’s a professional golfer. And I’ve known her since second grade, and she’s like my main, for sure.

What subject in school was most challenging for you?

Probably biology. I’m in biology right now. They teach kind of the same science for four years, and then biology is a whole different thing. Like cells and all that stuff. It’s so confusing. So I wish you guys luck — you might be so much better than me, but I’m struggling with it right now.

What advice would you give other kids who are interested in becoming an actor or actress?

I would say this to everyone: Hard work definitely pays off. I think if you just start in theater, because that’s where I started, you have a really good chance of meeting agents and then getting out to Hollywood and doing all the fun stuff, so I would definitely just follow your dreams for sure. I know it’s so cliche. Everyone says it, but it’s true.

Do you enjoy being recognized in public?

I love meeting fans because they’re what keeps our show going, and it’s so nice to meet them in person. They’re always so sweet. I love taking pictures. So if anyone ever sees me in public, please come up and say hello, because I love to meet you.

Were there any other careers you were interested in?

When I was 6, I made a vow that I was going to be a veterinarian when I was older. I always wanted to help animals. And I love cats and dogs and birds and snakes so much. When I was little I would always like play doctor with my pets. But I guess one thing led to another, and I ended up going down a different path in my life.

What do you do to help yourself memorize your lines?

It’s actually become really easy for me over the years, because I wake up every morning and I have a new script; every day we get a new revised script. So I have to wake up and read over it a couple of times, and since I’ve been doing it for so long it kind of just locks in my brain. It’s kind of a practice. Everyone has their own type of techniques for memorizing lines. Mine is to read on my own. Some people like to read with other people when they’re memorizing, but me, I find it better when I’m in a quiet room and I can say [lines] to myself in front of the mirror, so that way I can see my facial expressions and everything.

Do you have fun on the set of “Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn?”

I have a ton of fun with the parents on our show, Brian [Stepanek] and Allison [Munn], because they’ve taught me so much. And they’re just so sweet, and they make the experience so much better because they are so funny. I have a ton of fun with the crew. When you work on a Nickelodeon show, it’s all about fun and finding the exciting parts and working, because we work such long hours for such long days, so it’s always fun to have comedic relief every now and then with the cast and crew.

What types of books do you like to read?

I love scary books. They always keep you on the edge of your seat, not knowing what’s going to happen next — not knowing if a ghost is going to go “Boo!” Like that. I haven’t been reading any books lately, but I love reading. Reading is something that is so fun for me, especially reading scripts. That’s like reading a book, every week.

What music do you like to listen to?

I like to listen to stuff that’s super hip and fun. I’ve been listening to Taylor Swift’s album recently, and it’s cool because she was gone for a while then came back with a bang. And every now and then I like to listen to hip-hop, because it’s fun. It’s good to dance to.

What do you do when you’re not acting?

When I’m not acting you can catch me watching YouTube. I watch YouTube all the time. Do you watch my channel? I need to post. I haven’t posted in so long. And I like to go shopping with my friends. I like to go to trampoline parks. I love to just relax, because working so hard for so long, it’s always nice to just go home and sit on your bed and take a nice long nap. I never appreciated naps when I was a little kid.

Who was your biggest inspiration?

Ellen DeGeneres. She’s just such a kind person. She does so much for other people. And I remember sitting at the kitchen table, sitting in the kitchen when my mother was watching her in the other room, and I remember seeing all the charity work she did and how nice of a person she is. One of my main dreams is to be on “Ellen” one day. I love Ellen so much. She’s just such a happy, enthusiastic person. I feel like she would be a really good friend to have.
