A temporary outdoor ice skating rink will turn the village green in Farmingdale into a "Winter Wonderland" for one week, from Dec. 26 through 31.

About 20 people at a time will be able to sign up for a one-hour, free skating block at the rink in front of the gazebo at 361 Main St., says Joe Fortuna, who owns the nearby Nutty Irishman pub. Sessions will run from 2 to 9 p.m. daily. Reservations are required via showclix.com (search for "Farmingdale Winter"), and free skates are provided.

There will be nightly outdoor entertainment as well as hot cocoa and coffee for sale, and at 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve the Farmingdale Fire Department will provide a ball drop. “We’re trying to give it a New York City feel,” Fortuna says.

The Winter Wonderland is sponsored by the Farmingdale Village Merchants Association, which also hosts the summertime Music on Main on Thursday evenings. Check the Merchants Association Facebook Page for the nightly entertainment schedule.
