'Pan' review, and interview with the star, Levi Miller

We saw the new movie "Pan," starring Levi Miller as Peter, Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard, Garrett Hedlund as Hook, and Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily at Warner Bros. Screening Room in Manhattan on Monday. Amanda Seyfried is also in the movie as Peter's mother.

The movie is the story of how an orphan named Peter becomes Peter Pan. The movie begins with Peter being left at an orphanage by his mother along with a note and a necklace. The movie then picks up 12 years later and Peter is still at the orphanage. He notices that boys are starting to disappear at night and he decides to camp out and try to see what's happening. All of a sudden, pirates drop down from the skylights on ropes and capture Peter to take him to Neverland.

In Neverland, Peter comes face-to-face with the evil Blackbeard the Pirate. Peter and all the orphans are forced to mine for pixie dust so that Blackbeard will have eternal life. Right away, Peter is framed for stealing and has to walk the plank. But as he is plummeting to his death and demise, he finds himself suddenly flying. That is when he discovers others think he is what the Tribals call the chosen one.

The movie continues with Peter trying to find his mom and to prove that he is worthy of being the chosen one. Along the way he becomes friends with James Hook, Smee, and Tiger Lily as they try to prevent Blackbeard from finding the pixie dust in the fairies' land.

We thought that the movie was incredible and the special effects were extraordinary. We all had different favorite parts, but we agree that the scenes in the fairy's hidden land were the most exciting. The message from the movie to believe in yourself was inspiring.

Levi Miller did an incredible job. We found out during our interview with him that he even did most of his own stunts.

We didn't like that Blackbeard kept threatening to kill Peter, and it was a little confusing during some of the parts, especially when they were trying to explain what happened to Peter's mother.

This movie is rated PG. We would give it 5 out of 5 smiles. We think it is good for boys and girls who like action movies with lots of surprises and a good message.

Right after we saw this amazing movie we sat down with Levi in the screening room lobby. We asked him:

What was your favorite scene that you did in the movie?

There were lots of favorite scenes. I think the native village scene was lots of fun. The director played lots of music and it was very exciting.

Who was your favorite actor to work with?

That's a tough question. I loved acting with everyone. I don't think I have a favorite actor to work with.

Do you do your own stunts?

Yes, I did all my own stunts in the film except for two.

How many movies have you been in?

Pan was my first ever film to be in, and then after "Pan," I did "Blue" which is an Australian film about a boy and a dog. Then after that, in a few weeks I'd be filming a film called "Jasper Jones" in Australia.

What was the most challenging scene you prepared for?

I did most of the stunt training in rehearsal stages and I didn't do much prep before the scene. The underwater scene, I think, took quite a bit of preparation. It was only a day, but it was a full day of being underwater with a harness on.

Did you have to do any schoolwork on the set?

Yes, I had to do tutoring, which was a bit difficult in between the scenes, but I got used to it through the film.

Are you an athlete?

Not really. I'm active, but I do like exercising. I went to the Runyon Canyon in L.A., that was fun. But, no, I'm not really an athlete.

What was your favorite movie that you were not in?

Probably the "Indiana Jones" movies All four of them.

Did you always like Peter Pan?

I've seen "Hook" and I've seen the 2003 versions. So, yeah, I'm a fan of Peter Pan. And I've read the book, of course.

How many places have you been to?

Well, I've filmed in London for six months throughout Pan. That was six months shooting in London and then in this press tour, where I'll be on to the premieres and such. I started off in London once again, and then I went to New York, and then I went to Toyko and then back to New York for the New York premiere, and I'm about to go to Mexico.

Did you like seeing yourself on TV?

Yes, it was pretty cool. A strange feeling, but exciting.
