‘Saving Marty’ reviewed by Long Island kids
“Saving Marty” by Paul Griffin (Dial Books) is a rich book. It is about a boy named Lorenzo and a pig named Marty. Marty is first introduced when Lorenzo’s mom brings a box full of puppies. Lorenzo sees a pig at the bottom.
Lorenzo names him after his father so Lorenzo can remember him. Lorenzo’s father was a hero and died in a war. Lorenzo’s mother wants to sell Marty for money, but Lorenzo tries to save him. Marty’s been with Lorenzo so long. Marty helps in a dog race for Cinco de Mayo. Lorenzo’s best friend Pal also helps.
At the end, Lorenzo finally learns about his dad. But there is even more to the story, and you should read it to find out!
