A one-of-a-kind Shopkins character auctioned off to benefit The Toy Industry Foundation charity has sold for $21,500, according to the foundation.
Moose Toys, the company that makes the Shopkins collectible toy, created a character called Gemma Stone. Despite its name, it doesn’t include any gems.
A weeklong auction that ended Monday drew 118 bids, with the winning bid coming from a fan in Florida. The full price will be donated to the Toy Industry Foundation, a nonprofit that distributes toys to children facing poverty, neglect, illness, abuse and other adversity.
More than 100 million Shopkins have sold nationwide. The tiny collectible toys have been a smash hit, especially among young girls. “We are thrilled that something so tiny can make such a big difference” Paul Solomon, co-chief executive of Moose Toys, said in a news release of the one-of-a-kind auction.
Said Jean Butler, executive director of the foundation: “The proceeds from the Gemma Stone auction will allow us to distribute brand-new toys and games to kids who would otherwise go without the magic of play this holiday season.”
