Most people in our community don’t realize how lucky we are to have a beach so close to our homes. My family and I love the ocean. We spend many summer days at Smith Point Beach. What is even better than just spending the day at the beach is staying the night at a Smith Point campsite.

Camping is so much fun; there is so much to do. During the day you can drive onto the outer beach for a day trip if you have a truck with 4-wheel drive. If you don’t have a truck you can just walk right onto the beach. When you are at the beach there are lots of things to do, like find sand crabs. When there are big waves you can use a boogie board or a surf board. You can bring a fishing pole and try to catch some fish.

When you have had enough of the beach for the day the campsite is like a neighborhood, and you can ride your bike or scooter around to see all the other campers. There is a playground you can play at and meet other kids. Some people camp in tents while others have RVs.

Farther down the beach there is the Beach Hut, where they serve food and they always have live bands. When it’s time to go to sleep, the sound of the ocean is so nice and calming to listen to as you fall asleep. Then you wake up in the morning and do it all over again. Lots of people say it’s the best on eastern Long Island and I would have to agree, camping at Smith Point is the best part of my summer.
