Sophie Bravo, 10, a fourth-grader from Woodbury, competed an episode of “Chopped Jr.” at 8 p.m. Tuesday on the Food Network, the first episode of the second season of “Chopped Jr.”
“We’re going to have a viewing party with all my friends and my mom’s friends,” says Sophie, who is excited about her TV debut. “Since it’s Passover, I’m probably going to make matzah lasagna or matzah pizza.”
“Chopped Jr.” is based on “Chopped,” a reality-based cooking show during which four chefs on each episode compete for a $10,000 prize, preparing an appetizer, entree and dessert from a basket of mandatory ingredients. The show’s slogan: “If your dish doesn’t cut it, you will be chopped.”
“I’m not allowed to tell much other than that she was a competitor and that it was filmed the beginning of February,” says mom Debbie Bravo. The episode was filmed at a studio at Chelsea Market in Manhattan, she says.
“She’s a kid who has been cooking and baking since she was little,” Debbie says of Sophie. “She’s just always had a knack. She makes homemade pasta, she makes chicken dishes and fish dishes and steak. Baking is her real passion. Cupcakes is one of her areas of specialty. She gets very creative.”
